Ede & Ravenscroft
For 320 years Ede and Ravenscroft has upheld its reputation as tailors of distinction. The company has four separate areas of expertise: gentlemen’s attire, graduation services, legal dress and ceremonial dress.
The Brief
Ede & Ravenscroft had a existing website that consisted of four separate sections that were lacking in unity and a true expression of the company’s English heritage. They wanted their new website to convey their style, elegance, heritage and breadth of expertise in one single online format. Due to the disparate nature of their product range they wanted the website to help unify and assist with cross selling.
The Challenge
Ede & Ravenscroft have a wide range of audience groups - ranging from university students (young and old) to barristers and peers of the realm. Designing a single website that would appeal to all these tastes was an interesting challenge in creating balance for Liquid Light's design team.
Being tailors, Ede & Ravenscroft by nature are obsessed with perfectionism, precision and craftsmanship so there was an added emphasis on ensuring the design and attention to detail of the site portrayed the same level of quality. The requirements were to create a site that would sell products without appearing pushy, so the team also had to come up with attractive selling propositions.
The Result
The new site represents the understated English heritage brand that Ede & Ravenscroft have taken 320 years to establish. It is elegant, tasteful and contemporary. The goal of unifying the different aspects of the business in one single site has been achieved enabling cross selling. Typo3, a powerful content management system, has been used to build the site, which provides the client with fast, user friendly content editing tools. The commerce site has been built using Shopify, which offers a simple, user-friendly solution for browsing an online catalogue. Their existing legacy gown ordering system has also been integrated into the new site.
Mish, one of the designers on the website said, “It was a real treat getting a sneak peek behind the scenes of hundreds of years of tradition and craftsmanship.”
