The Elements, Livingston - Case study
The Elements shopping centre in Livingston is one of Land Securities' newest development projects - an exciting mixed-use development, incorporating retail, housing, leisure and catering. The £90 million development has already begun and completion is anticipated for winter 2008.
The Brief
Liquid Light was asked to design a website which would support the development process, catering to the following stakeholders:
- The local residential community
- Effected businesses
- Potential retail tenants
- Development partners
- Local government
The site had to provide up-to-date information ensuring all interested parties were fully in the loop regarding the development and its impact on them, whilst promoting The Elements as a desirable retail destination.
The website had to provide a powerful set of content management tools (CMS), allowing Land Securities and partners to manage the site’s content as its the development evolved changed.

The Challenge
The key challenge with this project was to design a website which could evolve as the development entered different phases in its construction, from initial consultation though to opening ceremony.
The site had to strike a sensitive balance between consultative information and brand-orientated marketing content.
The Result
We created a beautiful hybrid website combining brand orientated Flash movies with accessibility compliant XHTML.
The website embodies the dynamic lifestyle image of ‘The Elements Livingston’, helping to define the public perception of the shopping centre well before the centre is built.
The website is powered by the award winning Content Management System (CMS) Typo3. Typo3 allows Land Securities and its development partners to manage the content within the site in a powerful multi-user environment.
