ICA

The Infrastructure Consortium for Africa (ICA) is a government-sponsored initiative to support investment in African infrastructure projects. ICA helps to co-ordinate the efforts of institutions and donors such as the World Bank, DFID and the European Commission. The ICA website has a crucial role to play in this process by acting as a focus for the reporting of ongoing activities and a channel for disseminating all the latest information to stakeholders.

The Brief

As a newly established organisation, ICA required both brand development and website design services from Liquid Light. The objectives of the website are to raise general awareness and understanding of ICA and promote its work and its activities. In the absence of any other consistent communication channels, the website would also provide a focal point for ICA members, the private sector and NGOs.

The Challenge

The key challenge in designing the ICA website was to effectively communicate what ICA does in a simple and coherent manner, whilst also providing a framework for the newly formed organisation to evolve as its publishing needs increase.

As ICA had no existing logo or visual identity, one of the most important challenges was to create a brand for the ICA, and a distinct visual persona for the organisation.

The Result

The final ICA website stands out from a typical factual reporting website, with a bold identity that compliments ICA's fresh approach to the problems of African infrastructure investment.

The site is content managed using the powerful open source Content Management System, TYPO3 CMS. TYPO3 CMS offered DFID and ICA an exceptionally good balance between cost (no licence fee as it is open source) and functionality. ICA staff also have the means to update their website in multiple languages, syndicate news and events using RSS and publish the latest documents.

This project was awarded a Bronze Davey Award under the Public Service/Non-Profit category.

We were very happy with the service provided by Liquid Light. They particularly excel at design, producing websites with high visual impact. We will continue our relationship with the company and would be happy to recommend them to others.
