Founded in 2004, The Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition is a global partnership of public, private and non-governmental organisations. The Coalition's aim is to ensure that all people in low and middle income countries can access and use affordable, high-quality supplies to ensure their better reproductive health. Its 333 members include multilateral and bilateral organisations, private foundations, governments, civil society, and private-sector representatives.
The Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition have been establishing themselves as experts within their field since 2004 and their new website needed to educate visitors who RHSC are and the importance of their role within family planning.
A modern look and minimal feel was essential, whilst keeping navigation simple and non repetitive for ease of use. Ultimately the site needed to become an online destination of tools and resources for the entire sector.
The Coalition's existing website was built using TYPO3 and there was a concern that continuing with this system might not offer the functionality that was needed. RHSC approached Liquid Light as a specialist TYPO3 agency who were able to develop complex multi-lingual websites, but most importantly RHSC really wanted help to develop their visual design of their website.
The Coalition has amassed a large amount of valuable content for its users and our challenge was to organise this content in a usable and engaging way whilst still creating modern and minimal design. Avoiding using a sidebar navigation wherever possible played a large part in achieving the desired look whilst a comprehensive and easy to follow main navigation makes up for the sidebars’ absence.
We opted for a style tile process for this project to ensure that our design accurately delivered the modern and minimal design that the client had requested. The finished site is fully responsive and has an instant visual impact. Content is now organised in a clear and easy to navigate way and despite the use of large imagery and increased content on the homepage we reduced the page size by 10% and the number of HTTP requests by an impressive 75%. These contributing factors successfully reduced the page load time by 38% ensuring a quick and enjoyable experience for visitors whatever device they are on.
The site now encourages and improves collaborative working through its group pages and serves as a news destination for the reproductive health sector. CRM integration allows for newsletter sign ups and membership requests to be managed effectively by the coalition whilst publications and course databases are easily searchable and editable making them a valuable asset to professionals within the sector.
