Amphibian Ark rescues amphibians in crisis, saving species that cannot currently be safeguarded in nature. They identify species that are threatened with extinction and which conservation actions will give them the best chance for survival.
With a small, internationally distributed team, AArk coordinates a worldwide network of conservation partners, all working toward the survival of species that face an uncertain future in the wild.
The amphibian crisis is one of the most urgent in conservation. Yet for an organisation doing genuinely critical work, AArk's digital presence had struggled to keep pace.
The challenge
AArk's website had not been redesigned for a significant period of time. The result was a platform that looked dated and no longer reflected the credibility and impact of the organisation behind it. Over the years, content had been added incrementally without a coherent strategy. Important messages, content, and key calls to action had become buried, making it difficult for visitors to understand what AArk does, why it matters, and how they could get involved.
The most pressing concern was funding. AArk needed to re-engage existing funders and attract new ones, and the incumbent website was failing to make that case. For conservation organisations, the competition for funding is intense. Funders want confidence: confidence that their money will make a measurable difference, that the organisation is credible and well-led, and that they can clearly see the impact of their support.
The solution
With lean budget constraints, we focused on a streamlined discovery phase, presenting a reduced selection of design directions and a minimal but effective logo evolution.
The redesigned website gives Amphibian Ark a digital presence that genuinely reflects the importance of its work. Visually, it is a significant step forward – contemporary, credible, and compelling.
Funding-related content is no longer buried. The case for ex situ conservation is made clearly with the context funders need to understand why this approach matters. Impact is visible. Future plans are communicated. The organisation's credibility, built on years of scientific work and a global network of partners, comes through.
For a small team working with limited resources, the site also needed to be manageable. We ensured the content management system (TYPO3 CMS) is straightforward to use so AArk can keep the site current without needing ongoing specialist support for routine updates.
