Responsive web design is an approach to building websites allowing an optimal viewing experience across a range of devices from desktop to mobile.
Mobile use is growing fast and it is predicted that it will overtake desktop access to the internet later this year. Currently 15% of traffic to fundraising and donations pages is coming from mobile devices so its an important time for non-profits to make sure their website is accessible away from the desktop.

Responsive design not only makes for easy reading, navigation and interaction but more importantly, if the website relies on donations, a clear user experience is needed to give donors the confidence to part with their money. According to a Google Inc. study in 2012, 67% of smart phone users are more likely to buy on mobile optimised sites versus ones that are not optimised. With this in mind its becoming more and more important for non-profits to have an appropriate mobile content stagey.

Here are ten examples of great looking non-profit websites that have been built using responsive design. If your viewing them on a desktop then make sure you re-size the browser to see how the content re-arranges itself. Hopefully it will be a source of inspiration if your website doesn't cut the mustard in the mobile world.

Let us know if you think there's a website that should be in this list.

I was looking for some organization that may offer a nice mobile website to our India based non profit organization for free. Our beneficiaries are teenage students in institutions of higher education. They have very easy access to mobile phones, but not much have access to desktop internet. So we need a mobile version of our website that can give them the necessary supports.
