We worked with Liquid Light on Branding Development with a focus on website design. Our sessions with the team were fruitful and useful in helping us develop a strategy for our brand and implement a new website.
The results exceeded all expectations and we are delighted to continue working with the team next year. We are very glad we found you Liquid Light!
... The brand workshops not only shaped our visual identity but helped us to reflect on and develop our voice and identity as an organisation far more broadly.
Liquid Light had a very thorough and engaging process to get under the skin of the Design Council... They definitely met the brief, with good interpretation but also by gently challenging us
Beyond the logo: addressing nonprofits specific challenges
A brand is not a logo. It’s not a set of identity guidelines. It’s not a set of values or a company vision. It’s not even all of these things put together. It’s a gut feeling, arrived at by the audience that interacts with your organisation. When viewed this way, it’s clear that in order to design an NGO brand we must go beyond the visuals. To do so there are many considerations that are unique in the nonprofit and NGO space:
Limited resources
Non-profits face pressure to demonstrate responsible use of funds. While they often have budgets for branding, there's heightened scrutiny on how these resources are allocated. The challenge lies in balancing impactful branding with the need to visibly prioritise mission-related spending. Our approach focuses on creating value-driven brand solutions that justify investment and directly support the NGO's objectives.
Multicultural considerations
Many NGOs operate internationally which means there are considerations for cultural contexts to consider in our deliverables and also for being inclusive throughout the project. We develop NGO brand identities and strategies that resonate with donors, partners, funding organisations, policy makers, philanthropists and many more groups within the sector.
Stakeholder alignment
Non-profits often have a flat hierarchy with a democratic structure and a large stakeholder group. This can lead to slow decision making and ‘design by committee’. We tackle this by seeking feedback collaboratively in small incremental steps, meaning everyone is heard.
Communicating complex issues
Social issues are often nuanced and complicated, making brand storytelling particularly challenging. Through thoughtful imagery, infographics, and carefully crafted messaging, we distil complex concepts into accessible, digestible content.
Research-driven, inclusive design
Every successful brand starts with understanding your audiences. We combine any existing data you have with fresh research insights to create brands that are both inclusive and accessible. This evidence-based approach ensures your brand connects authentically with diverse communities while meeting the highest standards of digital accessibility - crucial for membership organisations serving varied professional networks.
All NGOs and nonprofits are different
Lastly, we understand that although nonprofits do face similar challenges, no two nonprofits are the same. We lean on our tried and tested methodologies but tailor these to the challenge at hand.
It was a no brainer to have LiquidLight lead our brand refresh project. From the initial discovery workshops through to the launch of our new website, the team have been fantastic. We couldn’t be happier with our refreshed brand identity and framework.
Liquid Light impressed us with a thought-provoking and highly effective approach to thinking about our brand and producing our new website. Imaginative, patient and yet challenging – this was a very professional process. We never imagined that we would be so delighted
